When I was growing up I used to read all the time - my favourite books were always the ones with well-crafted worlds. For me they were an escape, a way for my imagination to run wild. Many of you will recognise the books I used for this painting - A Series of Unfortunate Events, by Lemony Snicket. I was entranced by the story of freedom hard-won. The books greatly inspired this piece!
