Smells Like Roses to Me

The idea for this painting stood out to me as soon as I had a look in my kitchen sink and saw these water droplets. The most obvious element here is the drain - dominant and dark. And yet, our attention is captured by the amazing shapes and colours of the droplets, despite knowing that darkness is always there, and everything goes down it in the end. I felt that it was a beautiful parallel to life - we all know that one day, we will no longer be here - and that is something we all have to come to terms with. However, that knowledge gives us the power to take time and see the beauty in everything else. All the moments we experience with friends and loved ones, the incredible things we witness. The fact that we will be gone one day is the reason we really stop to smell the roses, and have meaningful lives. 🌹🥀
